The Knox Photographic Society Incorporated (A003525T )was founded about 30 years ago by a small collection of like-minded fellows who wanted to promote the art and craft of photography and also share their knowledge, expertise and passion for this crazy pastime with their fellows and anyone else who cared to join them.

As word got around that a pool of expertise had been developing in the Knox region, others from both nearby and farflung places joined in, to learn from these 'experts' and to share their own experiences. Over the years, membership in KPS has fluctuated from a mere handful to a full garrison numbering in the very high tens (not quite hitting the 100's). Currently, KPS has a membership of around 90 very active and enthusiastic persons, ranging in age from under 20 to over 70, with a roughly equal gender mix.

If you guys out there think that only males can take good pictures, come and see what the women folk do at Knox. If you women folk think you are the superior race when it comes to the arts, you had better check out our guys' efforts. Our galleries and winners circles are good places to start.

And if you folk out there think that great photographs only come from expensive gear, then you need to come and see the results we get at Knox with even the simplest and cheapest cameras. Take a browse through our galleries right here. Yes, many images were taken with big expensive Canons and Nikons, but many were also taken with simple pocket point-n-shoot film and digital cameras and in some cases, single-use (disposable) cameras, they are the ones with the cardboard cases and plastic lenses. We even have a few members who dabble in pin-hole camera picture making (only the Lord knows why). We can help the most novice of happy-snappers make better looking pictures and the seasoned pro make bad ones (just kidding).

How do you get involved?

There is no need to join KPS immediately. Visitors are always welcome and by all means try us out for a couple of visits, then decide if you want to sign up. So come along and check us out at our next meeting.

Where Are We?

KPS meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month (except in Jan and Dec) at the Boronia West Primary School, Tormore Rd Boronia (watch for the blue 'Aquatic Centre' sign on Boronia Rd). Mel: 64:J8

Joining Fees:

Single Person: $45

Family: $60 - A family is an adult (single or couple) and any number of non-working children, up to the age of 18.

Concession: $40 - Eligible persons are: full time students and people who receive a Commonwealth Government Pension, such as Age Pension, War Service Pension, Unemployment Benefits, Widow’s Pension, etc.

Note: A Seniors Card is not a valid concession.
Bona-fides must be presented (each year) to validate the concession.

Meetings start promptly (or thereabouts) at 8pm and (usually) run until around 10pm, depending on how in depth the discussions get. We have a good mix of practical how-to sessions, as well as a range of eloquent and informative guest speakers, plus of course our regular image competitions. There is ample parking available in the large carpark between the school and the adjacent swimming pool. So with these landmarks, you should have no problems finding us, it's through the school gate and left at the first door. See you there soon?
